retour Château de Montigny

Built in the 17th century, first by the family of Laval, then by Joseph Durey of Sauroy, the castle was acquired in 1838 by an ancestor of the current owners. He was the birthplace of François de Laval (1623-1708), first bishop in New France. It is classified a historical monument since 1963. This set is composed of a central body, a building attached to common usage, two entrance pavilions connected by a grid surrounding a courtyard, all surrounded by river Avre, wherein the set is reflected very stately way. The construction of this all began in 1700. In the early 19th century, an English park with plantation and gaming rivers and waterfalls replaced the former French park.
